Why Photography Workshops Are Important To My Clients

Every child who walks onto my property deserves my very best.

I am obsessed with creating beautiful memories of children at play. Genuinely, deeply obsessed. And my biggest fear is that someday that obsession fades. So every year I go looking for inspiration — studying with some of the finest children's photographers in the world, learning everything I can, and coming home more in love with this work than when I left.

The Artwork I Create Was Never Meant to Be Ordinary Photography.

I never wanted families to come to me for a photography session. I want them to come to me for a beautiful, commissioned piece of artwork — one that happens to be their child, captured at exactly this moment in time, in a way they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Keeping this goal requires something most people don't see — the work that happens long before a child ever sets foot on my property.

Every year I invest in workshops with some of the most talented children's photographers in the world. Not because I want my work to look like theirs — I go for inspiration and knowledge.

Because there is something powerful about being in the presence of work that truly moves you. It reminds you to look closer. To slow down. To notice the small things again.

I bring those moments home. I sit with them. I experiment. And little by little, they make me a stronger artist for the families I photograph.

Recently I had the privilege of learning from two artists I deeply admire.

Cass Vanhorn of Noelle Mirabella Photography creates portraits that don't just document childhood — they preserve the innocence of it. Spending time in her world reminded me why I fell in love with working with children in the first place.

Iwona Podlasinska, whose work is known across 28 countries, brought me back to the quiet magic of natural light and the courage to let a moment simply unfold. Her belief that "every photo tells a story of moments that will never happen again" is something I carry with me into every session — as an artist, and as a grandmother who understands firsthand how quickly it all goes.

That investment — in myself and in learning from the very best — is exactly why the Forever Bear Storybook Experience and Summer Days at the Creek Adventure exist. What these incredibly talented artists gave me wasn't a blueprint to follow. It was the inspiration to create something entirely my own.

Continuing to learn and grow as an artist is not really about me.

It is about the little girl who arrives on my property nervous and leaves feeling like the star of her very own storybook. It is about the boy who wants to keep playing even after the session is over. It is about the parents who trust me with something irreplaceable — the memories of their children.

That is why I never stop learning. And when the time comes to choose someone to photograph your child, I hope you will ask that question of every photographer you consider — including me.

I'd Love to Photograph Your Child

If you are looking for a fine art children's photographer in the Pittsburgh area — serving Mars, Cranberry Township, Wexford, Fox Chapel, and surrounding communities — I would love to create something extraordinary for your family.
