Building Our Santa Experience - Every Story Begins with a Blank Page

Every Christmas story begins with the very first page.

I’ve spent weeks writing the multi-child version of our story, making sure every moment is perfect from beginning to end.

This week, I went back to the beginning…

Because every child's story deserves to be as magical as their visit with Santa.

This is one of the reasons I love writing our Storybook Albums. For years, my stories have been written in a gentle, rhyming style inspired by The Night Before Christmas. Families have always loved them—and so have I.

But this year, I wanted to try something different. Instead of writing in rhyme, I am creating a classic Christmas story—one that I hope families will want to read together year after year.

The first draft of the multi-child version is finally complete.

Although I've learned that complete may be a rather generous word.

The story is a first draft, by opening day, this page may look a little different.

Have you ever written something and thought, This is perfect. It is exactly what I wanted—only to go to bed, wake up the next morning, and suddenly notice all the little things that could be better?

That has been me throughout this entire process.

So, I begin again with another blank page—keeping all the parts I love and carefully reworking the ones that don't feel quite right yet.

Once I'm finally happy with the multi-child version, I'll begin adapting the story for a child visiting on their own—and then create another version for our youngest visitors. Each one will follow the same magical journey through Santa's Office and the Elf Academy, but the story will be thoughtfully adjusted for the children experiencing it.

And even then, the writing won't be finished.

Every family who visits us has a different story to tell. Some children arrive with brothers and sisters. Some come all by themselves. Some are experiencing their very first Christmas. The pages are adjusted for every family so that, when they open their Storybook Album, it feels as though the adventure was written just for them.

That's why I don't think of this as finishing a book. I think of it as continuing a story—one that keeps growing right alongside our Santa Experience.

Until next week….

This Week Behind the Scenes...

This Week Behind the Scenes...

While much of my week was spent working on the first draft of this year's Storybook Album, several other parts of our Santa Experience quietly moved forward too.

✔ Began working on the keepsakes Santa gives each child
✔ Updated Daniel's Magical Santa Sessions landing page on his website while also writing this journal entry.
✔ Created individual folders for every family already registered for this year's experience

And then, somewhere in the middle of everything we had already started, I had a brainstorm:

What if we moved my office downstairs?

Of course, my new office location was already a bedroom—which meant the bedroom had to move upstairs before the office could move downstairs. What sounded like one simple idea quickly became a complete room swap and took up nearly half the week.

But it will make our Santa Sessions flow so much better. This year, families will have two designated dressing rooms where they can change, use pieces from our wardrobe, and leave their coats and belongings while they enjoy their private time with Santa.

So, in between writing a Christmas story, painting wooden toys, collecting Marketplace treasures, and preparing for our registered families, we somehow managed to relocate an entire bedroom and office too.

Just another perfectly ordinary week of building Santa's world.
