Pure Magic: Baby Duck Sessions with Cranberry Township and Mars Photographer

What happens when two little boys in overalls meet a few baby ducks on a summer evening?

Pure magic.

There are evenings here on the property that feel less like ordinary life and more like a scene from an old storybook. This was one of them.

Two little boys in worn overalls wandered down the path, tin bucket in hand, while three determined baby ducks waddled just ahead — as if they were saying, "follow me." At the old wooden gate, the boys forgot all about the camera. They were too busy trying to coax the ducklings close enough to feed them, giggling every time one waddled just out of reach.

Nothing was forced. Nothing was posed. It was simply childhood doing what childhood does best — filling quiet country evenings with muddy boots, soft feathers, and the kind of magic you can't manufacture, only witness.

This is the kind of art I get to create for families. And I never, ever take it for granted.

Okay, I'll admit it — we gently placed that baby duck in the little red wagon. But nobody told him to stay. That part? Completely his idea.

The baby ducks are a little like toddlers — completely unpredictable, impossible to reason with, and absolutely impossible not to love. And somewhere in the middle of all that beautiful chaos, the magic always seems to find us.

Every. Single. Time.

And then there are the quieter moments — a little boy walking through the grass, three baby ducks waddling in front of him. No prompting. No posing. Just a child completely focused on the baby ducks.

These are the images that make a mother's heart stop for just a moment.

Here’s something I always want families to know: while the baby ducks may steal the spotlight, my real goal is always to capture your child — their personality and the way they explore the world around them.

Some of my favorite images from these sessions have nothing to do with the ducklings at all. Like this one. Two brothers, a single wildflower, and a quiet little moment that needed no baby ducks whatsoever to be absolutely perfect.”

And because childhood is equal parts sweetness and silliness — cookies are the perfect ending.
