There were so many beautiful images.
At first, she selected a family portrait at my old wooden fence. It was a classic, timeless portrait — everyone together, looking at the camera, a beautiful image of the family she loves.
But after spending time with their gallery, she realized there was another portrait that told their story even more.
She chose the portrait of their family curled up together on a blanket at the edge of the woods, surrounded by the baby ducklings.
In that image, the focus was not on everyone looking at the camera. The focus was on the connection between them — mom and dad watching their boys play, the boys completely absorbed in the joy of the moment, and the love that surrounded them.
That was the portrait that belonged on their wall.
But the story of that portrait started long before their ordering appointment.
Mom had seen one of my earlier duckling portraits and knew this would be something her very active little boys would love. She wanted a family experience that would bring out their personalities and create memories, not one where they were expected to sit still and pose the entire time.
And that is exactly what happened.
The boys were completely captivated by the tiny ducklings. They carefully held them, watched them explore, and shared the excitement of something new together.
Of course, we also created the family portraits that are so important — mom and dad with their boys, the boys together, and the quiet moments that show the love between them.
Together, their parents selected their favorite images to become part of their collection and then took the time to choose the perfect family portrait for their home.
Alongside that large family portrait, they chose individual portraits of each boy at my old wooden gate with the ducklings — two images that celebrate each child and this special season of childhood.
This is why I believe artwork matters. The portraits hanging in your home become part of your children's story, reminding them every day that they are loved and that these moments together mattered.
As a commission-based studio, your $150 Creative Fee reserves your session and is applied in full toward the heirloom artwork collection you choose after viewing your portraits.
Although the baby ducks are gone for this summer, the memories created during those sessions continue. Summer Day at the Creek Sessions are now beginning, along with Custom Portrait Sessions on my private 40-acre property featuring woodland paths, meadows, fences, and ponds.
