It happened one weekend—my 14-month-old grandson came to stay at my house, all on his own for the very first time.
Just the two of us.
We filled our days with grand adventures:
🚶♂️ Strolls down the quiet country road
🌿 Discoveries in the tall summer grass
🧺 A sunrise trip to the creek
…and a wooden cradle just the right size for dreaming.
When he first arrived, we spent the morning exploring. We wandered outside, where he found the chickens and ducks down by the pond. He was fascinated—reaching out to gently touch their feathers as they pecked curiously at his pant legs. It was such a sweet and funny sight. (No camera involved just enjoying the moment!)
At nap time, I rocked him slowly until his little eyes grew heavy. Then, just like I did for his big brother a year ago, I carefully placed him in the same small wooden cradle. And yes—I captured the matching portrait I had dreamed of. One for each boy, one for my heart to hold onto.
Evenings brought soft light and outdoor adventures —the kind of light I live for as a photographer. I kept my camera close in those moments, capturing the quiet moments with this little guy. But during the day, I let it rest. That time was for play. For being fully present. For soaking in the magic of being his Nanny.
Of course, bedtime came with a few tears. It wasn’t his bed, and he missed his mama. But we rocked, we snuggled, and we got through it together.
He’s not walking yet, but he is already bursting with curiosity. One morning, I took him to the creek at the bottom of our road for a little photo session. The light was beautiful—but he was more interested in picking up stones and tasting the sand than in sitting still for portraits. And honestly? I loved every minute of it. I managed to snap one or two photos to remember it by—but the real treasure was watching him experience it all.
When his mama came to pick him up, his little eyes lit up like the morning sun.
It was a weekend filled with mud, light, lullabies, and love—and I wouldn’t trade a single second of it.
If you’d love portraits like this of your own child—something tender, meaningful, and full of story—I’d be honored to create them for you.
As a Cranberry Township children’s photographer, I specialize in capturing outdoor childhood portraits that celebrate wonder, imagination, and connection.
Let’s make magic together. ✨
